Dashosaur - DINOJAM2
Roxy is one of the last living dashosaurus of this era.
This type of dinosaurs are known for their powerful dash ability.
Guide her through the valley to a safe place while two volcanos suddenly wake up.. 🌋
About the game
This is a GameBoy-like platformer inspired by tons of different games of the genre. I tried to do something cute, but intense and challenging.
It was made for DINOJAM2, a game jam featuring dinosaurs.
Additional theme was "volcano".
Ratings & feedbacks are very much appreciated as usual!
Thank you for passing by and I hope you have fun.
Oh, please.. Post a screenshot of the ending screen with your best time ♥

This is a great little game, good work on the level progression. Only two things missing: a pause screen and a GameBoy port.
Thanks for playing, Thomas! I can add a pause screen, indeed. I'll see what I can do.
For the GB port, I'm afraid I don't plan it yet. It would a really cool challenge & achievement, though. I'll keep this lovely idea in mind and figure it out later!
Welp. Didn't make it to the top 50, but this was my first time playing this, and I must say, under 15 minutes isn't so bad, I guess.
Thanks for playing and sharing your score here! This means a lot. 🥰
I did it!
Yay! Congrats! 🎉
Thank you for sharing your score 🥰
Now that's a lot of volcano rocks you dodged ðŸ¤
I'm terrible at it, but keep trying just to see that cute dinosaur again
I tried to build a challenging platformer for once. Not sure if this idea works really and if the difficulty balance is good enough, but tried my best 😅
Thank you very much for playing, Lina
Nice! Sometimes when a level loads or reloads, the music won't start.
A question, how did you replicate the level loading/transition effect of game boy? The one that screen is fading in (or out) but due to color limitations you see only 3 or 4 discreet steps of the fade rather than a smooth one in new games.
Thanks!
Thank you for playing, and reporting me this music issue!
I'll see what I can do, and how I can fix it.
For this GameBoy-like color transition, I simply set the 4 hexadecimal colors I want as variables and then I replace colors one by one depending on if I want to make a fade-in or fade-out transition effect. A color replacement is done in approx. 0,2s to give that retro effect.
I'm using Construct 3 as game engine. I can share a tiny template with the example above if needed.
Thanks for the explanation, the example (or anything you might deem would help a C3 n00b is much appreciated!).
I have a couple questions and would appreciate the answers whenever you had time:
1) So you draw the selected color over the whole screen like on a transparent (or not) square sprite stretched to fill the screen?
2) Are you planning to release it commercially?
3) Do you have experience with other engines? And if yes, what are pros and cons of C3 in your opinion for making retro 2D games?
4) What is the best tutorial material to learn making platfromer in C3 in your opinion?
Cheers!
2:34 😎 Love the simplicity and just chilling out. The meteors give enough challenge but you can wait on them if you want 😛 Great work man, you rock!
Thank you for playing, Sander!
That's very kind. 🥰
Yes, you can wait here and there to avoid falling volcano rocks. That's part of the trick to progress. Well done!
Great game. The way the music builds on itself across levels is masterful.
Thank you very much for playing, and the kind words!
