v018 - Gameplay experience and SFX



Small update with following important changes:

  • Reduced player gravity;
  • Reduced player gravity while jumping;
  • And increased player maximum fall velocity;

These changes should make the overall game play experience more enjoyable for the player. It will allow more time to press from one button to another and be able to combo jump and dash abilities. Fall duration is increased so it should allow players to land safely sometimes in longer jumps or dashes.

I also implemented the following SFX made by my friend @Beatscribe:

  1. When player press A on start screen (and it starts the intro story)
  2. When screen shake on start screen meaning volcano awoke (same event will happen on start of level 3 - level 1 and 2 being sort of tutorial levels to learn the basis)
  3. Jump
  4. Dash
  5. Player destroy a rock (while dashing)
  6. When a volcano rock is destroyed (while falling and colliding with ground or player)
  7. When player dies
  8. When player collects an egg

That's it for today.
I will be working on implementing the music next, and work on the ending story screen.
