Dashosaur DX
Dashosaur DX is a short precision platformer for the Gameboy.
You play Roxy, one of the last living dashosaurus of this era. She is known for her powerful dash ability. Guide her through the valley to a safe place while a volcano suddenly awaken.
This is a GameBoy port version made with GBStudio of one of my previous game jam entry Dashosaur. It started as a "what if I port it to GameBoy?" one and a half month ago, and here we are today. π
The game is now available on the platform RetroAchievements and features 9 unlockable achievements plus an online leaderboard for speed running fans.
Go to Dashosaur DX page on RetroAchievements
A huge thanks to Layton Loztew for his amazing work.

The game is also available on speedrun.com for those of you who want to compete for the best times in the "Any %" category or in the "100% completion" category.
A big thanks to Procurador for adding Dashosaur DX to the platform and players for contributing and making this real.

How to play
You can play directly in the browser, even via your smartphone.
Or you can download the rom file (.gb) and play via an emulator or directly on a physical device supporting these files.
The Sameboy emulator is a very good example. It runs on PC, Mac and Linux, is free and very easy to use.
Please note that the ".pocket" file is specific to the Analogue Pocket console and will only work on it.
If you are on a PC and prefer a native build, you can download the Windows archive. Unzip it, and run the .exe to start playing instantly.

I love it! Wonderful game
Thanks! It means a lot <3
Well done! Nice time!
Update: Improved my time slightly
Thanks for playing and sending your best time. Well done! I just added you to the offline leaderboard above.
Great game! Here's my time:
I got all of the eggs as well.
Tip: For those of you who are having trouble getting the egg in the last level, I recommend that you dash, then do a mid-air jump as soon as you collect the egg.
All egg rescued!
Thank you for playing and congratulations for your performance! I added you to the offline leaderboard above.
This was so much fun!! Loved the gameplay, loved the art, and loved the happy ending :D I'm curious to try and speedrun it
Played it for a video, first game in the lineup!
Thank you so much for playing and your warmful comment. This means a lot! I added your best time into the offline leaderboard above with a direct link to your video. <3

The best I can do:
I feel like you're close to perfection here, omg. It feels good to see how much attention you gave to this game. Congrats for the amazing perf! Added you to the offline leaderboard above too.
Solid Game I Was Using A Fork Of Lemuroid from Google play store called psp emulator which is funny because it says gba emulator in google play store until u download it then it says psp emulator its just a forked version of lemuroid and a very basic 1 at that I made it to lvl 3 and woww ramp up the difficulty here why dontchya lol I will be playing this on retroarch using same boy, gear boy & VBA-Next and VBA-M and mgba cores and comparing their performances in my updated review here so stay posted and I used internal pallette special 3 which is a sgb2 specialized internal colorization pallette I will be following updates you should make a shmup game next and call it dinosaur blast em ex :) great job dev
second run really short and fun game wana get try to get sub 6
So happy you like it! Thanks for playing and for posting a screenshot of your best time. I added you to the offline leaderboard above. Good luck for sub 6, buddy.
Very simple and fun game to speedrun. Excellent work, SleepingPanda.
Wow, that's an amazing perfect run! I feel very special right now seeing so much attention on the game. Thank you very much for playing, the video record and the kind words. It means a lot ππΎπ«ΆπΎ
no idea how to get the egg in level 10 (the one right above the spikes) since you can only dash and simple jump.
To get the egg in level 10 you have to first dash, wait 0,xx seconds, get the egg, and instantly jump while in the air to land on the next platform.
It is kind of a dash + coyote jump combo basically.
See screenshot below:
yeah, I thought of that but definitly dont have the reflexes to make that quick mid air jump :-)
My best time at the moment
Nice improvement, well done! I edited your score in the offline leaderboard above.
Dinosaurs on Game Boy! <3

My best time, for now. :)
We need more dinosaurs based games, don't we? ;D
It's nice to see you there. Thank you for playing and congrats on this very nice time! I added you to the offline leaderboard above.
Hi! Really fun game. Will you make updates in the future?
Thanks for playing!
I'm not planning to provide content updates, but I might provide critical bug fixes updates if needed.
Anyway that's my first completed GB game so it's just the beginning. I have plenty of other small GB game ideas. You can expect some more GB games like this in the future. ^^
What a master piece, this is my best time.
Thank you! It means a lot. <3
Well done! Added you to the offline leaderboard above.
The music is great, but what is the scientific reason why there are so many rocks?
Unfortunately I don't have a scientific explanation for the fact that so many rocks are falling. I just thought that rocks falling as a result of a volcano eruption might be an interesting concept without necessarily explaining how many are falling.
Thanks for playing and passing by!
Hey Guys, I have made a leaderboard for the game as well on speedrun.com
https://www.speedrun.com/pt-BR/Dashosaur_DX
@Sleeping Panda I would like to see you there so I can give you a moderator role :)
thank you for making such an amazing game and for encouraging competition on it
Hey, Procurador
Thanks for adding Dashosaur DX to speedrun.com. That's really cool to see the game there and that players want to compete and speed run it.
I created the following account on the platform: sleepingpanda021
I will find time later to record a video of my best time and make sure to submit it. Thanks a lot! <3
HEY! This game is pretty good! We featured it on our site! https://erikhoudini.com/the_crypt/arcade/
Thank you for featuring the game on your website and for the kind words. It means a lot! <3
keep making cool stuff!
I will make sure to try my best! :)
7mins 37 sec π
Thanks for playing and for sending your best time! Leaderboard updated. :)
3 mins 31 seconds and all 10 eggs! And that was only the second time I played it. Awesome game by the way
Awesome time for a second time! Well done! Thanks for playing and the screenshot. <3 Leaderboard updated!
Incredible time, and amazing last jump. Wow! Thanks for playing and for the video. (: <3
If the physics on the breakable blocks were fixed, I could recommend it. Plus, level 9 was cruel and I can't figure out how to get the egg on level 10.
Is there a stage select for replaying levels to get missing eggs?
Hey, thanks for playing and your feedbacks!
I'm sorry you had some troubles with these breakable blocks. Normally if you hold the jump key you can even pass on top of them without the need to break them in situations where you have two blocks and enough space above them.
To get the egg on level 9, you need to go on the top platform to perform a long jump and get the egg while in the air.
Here is a screenshot with some explanations:
To get the egg on level 10, you can dash first and jump while dashing and collecting the egg. Something like this:
I hope this help you out.
No, there is not a stage select screen yet. I did not plan that feature to be honest.
I got the egg on 9. It was the spamming of meteors that made the level frustrating.
That level 10 egg is tricky. I'll have to play the game again.
Thanks!
Hmm, is there a way to skip the intro?
No, I did not implement such feature. Sorry. π
You're welcome. Thanks for playing. (:
Really enjoyed it up to level six! It all kind of fell apart there because it demands pixel perfection between the RNG that has to be on your screen- but it is so charming and cute, reminds me of playing old school mario.
Thank you for playing and your feedback. Trying to build a precision platformer with randomly generated hazards is not easy, especially for finding the right difficulty balance. So I totally understand. Thanks for the good vibes ππΎ
that was exactly what I felt too - randomly generating hazards with that precision - it was so much fun to try for the challenge, but I am a wimp personally lol! I love seeing the times people managed to get, that leaderboard and it managing to keep track of your best time are amazing features to include with it <3
Cool! I actually wanted to get a local leaderboard too, with like top 10 best times, but decided to reduce the scope because I did not want to work for more than 1,5 month on this. Maybe for a next project. At least there is the best time available. Thanks for the good vibes ππΎ
Great effort for your first game, really enjoyed it!! Shows you what you can quickly create in the GB Studio engine to great effect!
Feedback - credits scene, disable inputs after the first button press, as I kept pressing all the buttons to try to get back to the main menu, and didn't realise the music was starting to fade back to the main menu page. Was an odd bug!
Excellent effort - will download to play on my GB!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
Indeed, I forgot to disable inputs on Credits scene. I will at this bug fix to the next update.
Playing on real devices is such a unique experience. Have fun!
Rename your game.gb file too before uploading to Itch, helps when downloading and saving to a flash cart with other same named ROMs. Dashosaur_DX.gb or similar ππ»
I guess you picked the ROM file from the web or windows build, right?
Because indeed in those builds, the rom file is named "game.gb" because of the web wrapper it is included in.
Otherwise if you look at the downloadable files at the bottom of this page, above the comments section, you will see that there is a rom file named "dashosaur-dx-v021.gb" available to download so that you don't need to rename it yourself.
Maybe I can have a look how I can modifiy the web wrapper to launch a renamed rom file. Thanks for the info, and hope you have fun.
Hmm, no - it's from the download links... The title shows as dashosaur-dx-v021.gb as the file name, but when it downloads, it's game.gb ? Odd.
Oh, damn! I thought Itch would also rename the downloaded file. I will fix this. Thanks a lot! π«ΆπΎ
As the person holding the world record speed run for this game I think itβs an awesome game to play π
That time is ridiculous!! Haha
Haha, sadly someone sent me a screenshot a few minutes ago and it looks like he beated your world record I'm afraid. π
Thanks for playing and everything, Sander! Like always.
I learned so much about GB Studio and the GameBoy limitations. That was the most fun part.
Happy that it's done now. I will soon freshly start working back on my long term projects. βΊοΈ
