v012 - Removed HUDs & enhanced perfs



There is nothing really new with this update.

I figured out that falling volcano rocks can in some levels ask for already a lot of performance from the GameBoy. So I decided to do the following changes:

  • Removed HUD of all levels to get more sprite available back and reduce memory usage;
  • Put back overall levels one row down to get one extra tile for level design;

I got to a point where I have to choose what to remove and what to keep in order to reduce the memory used of the GameBoy. So I decided to remove the whole HUD bar. I wanted to show a couple of things there like the current level, a death count, and a timer. But as these things will be shown using actors, it will take way too much sprite memory. I will show these info probably in a result screen when the player reached the end of the game.

Still 6 levels in this version. More soon.
